Cantera Stone

Cantera is the simple Spanish term for quarrying stone. Our Cantera Stone is quarried located throughout the inland regions of central and southern Mexico in regions such as Jalisco, Hildago, Zacatecas, Pachuca, Huichapan and Degolloto. Formed millions of years ago by extreme volcanic heat and pressure, Cantera Stone is the result of lava flow mixing with rock, ash and other volcanic material. The variations, both in color and in texture, observed in different Cantera Stone varieties is directly applicable to the materials that were present at the time it was formed. Cantera is naturally strong and durable, but is also light weight, making it easy to carve and a perfect stone for a wide variety of architectural purposes.
